Experience
  • Editor

My freelance experience includes editorial work on books, articles, academic papers, newsletters, and curriculum. While I am a skilled copy editor, my specialty is substantive and developmental editing. I am also experienced in formatting and visual documentation design and have been employed to create format structures for curricular materials and other types of writing. In addition to my traditional editorial work, I function as an editorial consultant, evaluating nonfiction manuscripts for their strengths, weaknesses, content, and organization; advising authors and publishers on the feasibility of investment in a particular project; and providing guidance to authors as they seek methods of revision.

Along with my freelance experience, I spent nearly four years as a technical editor/writer in a large corporation, working with subject matter experts to produce technical documentation for online use. I created procedural documents, compiled style guides, developed formatting procedures, and contributed to the formation of curricular materials within that setting.

  • Teacher

I am a certified teacher of English and theatre. As a graduate student, I spent two years at Illinois State University teaching college writing. I also tutored both graduate and undergraduate students in writing academic papers.

  • Director

I am also a theatre director, employed by both community theatre and and high school programs to direct their plays and musicals. I served as a guest artist in two high schools over four seasons, directing their shows and training their students in various aspects of the theatrical process. These "side jobs" have given me some of my greatest pleasure; through them I have been able to combine my creativity with my organizational, analytical, and educational skills as I coached, taught, and mentored large groups of teenagers.

Recommendations

"Tracy is an incredibly accomplished editor who constantly strives for consistency, accuracy, and ease of reader comprehension. Her strengths include an attention to detail, a very thorough grasp of the English language, and a desire to continually grow in the field. During the years we worked together, I always knew Tracy could be counted on to deliver quality work, regardless of how small or large the editorial task was. Her strong work ethic and talent in the field make her a valuable editor."

--Michelle Kupferschmid, editor

"Tracy is easy to champion! Her editing skills guided me through the most complicated and challenging of my major Doctor of Ministry papers at Fuller Theological Seminary. Her creative insight and detailed ability to edit doctoral-level theological and academic writing was wonderful. I counted on Tracy for accuracy, consistency, and thoughtful logic. Additionally, Tracy has the eye of an artist. She is a most diligent and faithful editor and consultant. She accomplished seemingly impossible turn-around deadlines. She has earned my high recommendation."
